Sell Vehicle in Werribee
In the case you need to sell or transfer your vehicle it is very important that you are well organized and you comply with the VicRoads recommendations in order to legally complete the process.
Selling or transferring a used vehicle.
If you are selling or transferring your used vehicle, there are some important steps you should not miss. It is very important that all parts grant valid ID’s during the process (Identification Cards, passports o Drivers license.). This is to comply with the correct identification of both parts, and to complete the vehicle`s transfer in a safe way.
1 - Before you sell your vehicle it is necessary that the vehicle is registered under your name. A vehicle´s registration certificate (or renewal) can be used as a proof of ownership. You may access this data by using the VicRoads available at the VicRoads website.
Step 2.
Download the Vehicle transfer form from the official VicRoads website.
In some cases a roadworthy certificate will be demanded by the VicRoads authority. Please check the VicRoads website to check the exemptions.
It will be necessary that you possess your VicRoads customer number. This number can be founded in your driver's license or in your latest registration renewal notice.
At this step, it is necessary that you observe if you want to keep your number plates or no. In case you want to keep them you will have to inform the VIcRoads department and cancel your registration. Bear in mind that this scenario can lead to a fee payment in order to keep the number plates.
3 - Sell the vehicle and complete the transfer form correctly. To avoid mistakes, take your time when filling up this document. This step is very important, ensure all the data is correct and it's fully completed, don't miss any detail as this document will have to be uploaded to the system.
The document must be signed by both parts.
It is strongly recommended to fill up a receipt of purchase at this time. After this paperwork, keep a copy or take a photo of all the documents in order to have a proof of the transaction.
4 - Inform the VicRoads in the following 14 days after the transaction has been done.
As the seller of the vehicle, you must submit the “Notice of disposal” using the VicRoads account, to inform the VicRoads of the transaction. Once this process is done, the vehicle will be transferred to the new owner in one day. On the other side, the buyer must complete the online procedure using his/her VicRoads personal account and proceed to the payment of the fee to finally complete the process. If all this process is not completed in 14 days, the transaction will be suspended.
Please bear in mind that at this stage all documents will be requested, and you will be asked to upload a picture or a PDF of all the documents.
Selling your vehicle to a dealer.
If this is your case, you won't have to do much. It’s the dealers own responsibility to do all the paperwork on your behalf. A fee payment will be conducted and once the payment is completed, it is important to keep the receipt and a copy (or photo) of all the documents.
