Your PS in Victoria
The probationary Driver's license will be issued for all of those who are starting to drive in the area of Victoria, and for those who have lost their license due to different causes. There will be several requirements in order to achieve a probationary license, and it is under the drivers own responsibility to understand and comply with these minimum requirements.
All interested drivers must be 18 years old (or older) and legally reside in the area of Victoria in order to get a Probationary driver's license. The probationary Driver's license will be issued for all of those who are starting to drive in the area of Victoria, and for those who have lost their license due to different causes.
- If the driver is under 21 years old - the learners permit must be held for at least 12 months.
- For those drivers between 21 and 25 years old - the learners permit must be held for at least 6 months.
- If the driver is 25 years old or older - the learners permit must be held for at least 3 months.
Please bear in mind that if during this period, the driver has been suspended or its license has been cancelled, the prior time will be stopped and restarted.
There will be several requirements in order to achieve a probationary license, and it is under the drivers own responsibility to understand and comply with these minimum requirements. After you check if you comply with all the minimum requirements for the license, the next step will be to book an appointment and study for the relevant tests.
Hazard perception test
- This test will be taken for all drivers who want to get a probationary license. All drivers must be minimum 17 and 11 years old at the time to take the test.
- If this test is not successfully passed on the first attempt, the driver will have the chance to try one more time in the same appointment.
- The official VicRoads website gives every driver the chance to practise this test online to help you be prepared.
- The test results will be given on the same day, and it will be valid for 12 months.
Driving test
- Before attempting the Driving test it will be necessary to pass the Hazard perception test.
- Please note that the VicRoads does not provide any vehicle for this test and is the driver's own responsibility to bring their own vehicle.
- Among all the necessary documentation, it is necessary that the driver provides the learners license, the learners log book (if necessary), and the applicable hazard perception test approved.
- If the test is successfully passed, the probationary license will be issued and received on the same day.
Special medical condition
- In the case the driver suffers any special medical condition, illness or disability, it will be necessary to pass a medical exam and bring a medical report before taking the tests.
Duration of the PS license
The duration of this license will depend on the driver’s age. Observing this, the Probationary license will have different periods of expiration.
- For all drivers under 21 years old, the license will be issued for 4 years (12 months at the P1 level and 3 years at the P2).
- For all drivers with 21 years or older, the license will be issued for 3 years (at P2 level).
