After you check if you comply with all the minimum requirements for the license, the next step will be to book an appointment and study for the relevant tests.

Hazard perception test

  • All drivers must be minimum 17 and 11 years old at the time to take the test. This test will be mandatory for all drivers who want to get a probationary license.
  • In case the driver fails on the first attempt, he or she will have the chance to try one more time in the same appointment.
  • Every driver has the chance to practise this test online to help you be prepared.
  • The test results will be given on the same day, and it will be valid for 12 months.

Driving test

  • Before attempting the Driving test, it will be necessary to pass the Hazard perception test.
  • Is under the driver's own responsibility to bring their own vehicle, as the VicRoads does not provide a vehicle for this test.
  • The day of the driving test, all drivers will be requested to bring the following documentation: the learners license, the learners log book (if necessary), and the applicable hazard perception test approved.
  • If the test is successfully passed, the probationary license will be issued and received on the same day.

Special medical condition

  • In the case of any special medical condition, any illness or disability that impedes a safe driving, it will be necessary to pass a medical exam and bring a medical report before taking the tests.

Duration of the PS license

  • For drivers under 21 years old, the license will be valid for 4 years (12 months at the P1 level and 3 years at the P2).
  • For drivers of 21 years old (or older), the licenses will be valid for 3 years (at a P2 level).
