Registration Cancel in Dimboola
You can cancel your registration at all times and request a refund for the time period you won't be able use your vehicle or vessel.
These circumstances are:
- In the case the vehicle or vessel has been stolen - the driver can cancel the vehicle`s registration and request a refund from the day of the theft.
- If the driver has suffered any disease or disability and is no longer able to drive safely - the driver may cancel the registration of the vehicle.
- In the case when an accident has occurred and the vehicle has been destroyed - the driver can request the cancelation of the vehicle’s registration and apply for the reimbursement of the money from the day of the accident.
- In the case of a vehicle or vessel salesment.
- Other special circumstances.
If you want to request a cancelation of your registration, there are different ways you can proceed.
You can do it online by visiting your VicRoads account and choosing the option “Cancel my registration”. In this case, you may request the refund of the money at the same time. Also, by using this method, you will have to provide real evidence of the destruction of the vehicle`s number plates.
Another of the possible ways to proceed is to visit one of the VicRoads customer service centers. In this case bring your vehicle`s number plates along with your ID or equivalent that proves your identity. (Due to the COVID situation this service may have suffered some changes, and it is highly recommended to use the online service until further notice.).
In case you prefer to keep your number plate, it is necessary that you inform the VicRoads department and be aware that a fee will be conducted in order to complete the transaction. In some scenarios the VicRoads allows the drivers to keep the number plates or to transfer a number plate from a vehicle to another one. Please visit the VicRoads official website for more information.
How to request a Refund
After a cancellation has been conducted, you can apply for a reimbursement of the unused period of your registration to the VicRoads department. Before proceeding with this it is very important that you keep your home address updated in the system at all times. The money reimbursed will arrive at your home address in a cheque in approximately 4 weeks.
To avoid misunderstandings and to save time it is highly recommended to request the refund at the same time you request the cancellation, but in some cases it is allowed to request a reimbursement after the cancellation has been conducted.
There are 3 different ways you may request a refund:
- Online request - Enter your VicRoads account and follow the steps
- Request in person - Visit one of the VicRoads customer service centers.
- Mail request - Send a refund form to “VicRoads - GPO Box 1644, Melbourne - VIC 3001”.
All refunds will be sended in a cheque to your home address provided in the system in a 4 weeks time period. Taxes and other administration fees will be deducted from the total amount to reimburse.
