Registration Cancel in Craigieburn
All drivers may cancel their registration at all times and request a refund for the period they won't be able use their vehicle or vessel.
These circumstances are:
- The vehicle or vessel has been stolen - In this case you can cancel the vehicle`s registration and request a refund from the day of the theft.
- The driver is no longer able to drive safely - If you have suffered any disease or disability you may cancel the registration of your vehicle.
- When an accident has occurred and the vehicle has been destroyed - In this case you can request the cancelation of your registration and apply for the reimbursement of the money from the day of the accident.
- If you are selling your vehicle or vessel.
- Under other special circumstances.
There are different ways you can proceed in order to request a cancelation of your registration.
You can also do it online by entering your VicRoads account and choosing the option “Cancel my registration”. In this case, you should request the refund of the money at the same time of the cancelation. If you choose this method, consider that you will have to provide real prooves of the destruction of the vehicle`s number plates.
If you prefer you may also visit one the the VicRoads customer service centers and bring your vehicle`s number plates along with your ID (or any equivalent to prove your identity). Bear in mind that due to the COVID situation this service may vary, and it is highly recommended to use the online service until further notice.
In case you prefer to keep your number plate, it is necessary that you inform the VicRoads department and be aware that a fee will be conducted in order to complete the transaction. In some scenarios the VicRoads allows the drivers to keep the number plates or to transfer a number plate from a vehicle to another one. How to request a Refund?
If you have cancelled your registration, you can apply for a reimbursement of the unused period to the VicRoads department. Before proceeding with this it is very important that you keep your home address updated in the system at all times, as the corresponding amount of money reimbursed will arrive at your home address in a cheque within 4 weeks.
To avoid misunderstandings and to save time it is highly recommended to request the refund at the same time you request the cancellation, but in some cases it is allowed to request a reimbursement after the cancellation has been conducted.
There are 3 different ways you may request a refund:
- In person - Visiting a VicRoads customer service center.
- Online - By your VicRoads account.
- By regular mail - Sending a refund form to the address “VicRoads - GPO Box 1644, Melbourne - VIC 3001”.
All refunds will be sended in a cheque to your home address provided in the system in approximately 4 weeks. Note that all taxes and other administration fees will be deducted from the total amount.
